Members of the National Council of War Veterans reiterate the call to liquidate the 56 existing veterans organizations and to found instead only one organization that would defend their interests, including in the relations with the authorities. The new organization is to be called “Veterans Force”.

In a news conference at IPN, Victor Ciobanu, a member of the initiative group for creating the organization “Veterans Force”, read a statement saying all the veterans organizations should be immediately merged into one entity. The National Council of War Veterans suggests convoking the veterans assembly at the local level so as to swiftly implement the proposal to unify the veterans organizations.

Veteran Andrei Eremia said it is not at all easy, but the new legal entity should be founded so that all the war veterans know their status and have an identity.

Veteran Anatol Macovei said they will insist on creating a bureau under the State Chancellery, which would safeguard the interests of war veterans. The bureau should consist only of veterans fielded by the General Congress of War Veterans.

Vasile Mungiu said the veterans now have the image of beggars. “When arms had to be taken in the hands, we were good. Now they call us a bunch of bandits,” stated the veteran.

The veterans expressed their regret at the fact that no reaction followed to the demands submitted by the veterans in the March 2 event even if the time given to the authorities expired. The National Council called on the managers of all the war veterans organizations to make common cause and gather together the veterans for a new protest that is to be mounted in front of the Government Building on March 26.
