The National Council of the Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) cannot exclude president of honor Veronica Abramciuc from the party, according to the statutes, executive secretary Valentin Krylov said in a news conference on June 4, IPN reports.

“If my colleagues remove Veronica Abramciuc from the party, they will violate the law. We will appeal such a decision to court. But the Council is dominated by the party’s president so that everything is possible,” said Krylov.

He believes that the National Council will also consider dismissing him from the post of executive secretary of the PSRM.

The split within the PSRM between the veterans and the newer members occurred in a meeting of the National Council on May 29, when the creation of a distinct ideological platform inside the party - “Patria – Rodina” - was announced. Valentin Krylov said the decision to form the platform is based on the conclusion reached by about one third of the Council’s members – the party is subject to a raider attack and to an attempt to usurp the power.

According to Valentin Krylov, the major objective of the platform “Patria-Rodina” is to change Moldova’s foreign political course towards the Eurasian economic organizations. He said that he wants the party’s president Igor Dodon to leave the PSRM.

In the May 29 meeting of the PSRM’s National Council, 13 members of the 40 announced that they created the socialist platform “Patria-Rodina”. A new meeting will take place on June 4.
