The head of the Armenian diaspora in Moldova Venera Gasparean denies the press reports that Radu Chijichenko, who she considers an impostor, was empowered by her family to go to her ex-son-in-law Vitalie Proca, who is held in the Jilava Penitentiary in Romania.

In a news conference at IPN, Venera Gasparean said she was visited by Radu Chijichenko after her son David Davitean was sentenced to 16 years in jail this June. Chijichenko came to her to offer his services of lawyer. He promised that David will be set free if he obtains from Vitalie Proca a statement saying that he does not know Vlad Plahotniuc and that the murder of banker German Gorbuntsov, on whose life Proca made an attempt in 2012, was ordered by Renato Usatyi. “Radu Chijichenko for three times asked for documents from Vitalie Proca through our agency. The statements with which we provided him didn’t satisfy him. They demanded that we should write that not Plahotniuc ordered the murder of Gorbuntsov, but Renato Usatyi,” stated Venera Gasparean.

The family’s lawyer Alexandru Botnariuc said Radu Chijichenko went to the Jilava Penitentiary, posing as Proca’s cousin, not as a lawyer, as he wasn’t empowered to visit him in this posture. The reports that Venera Gasparean was caught lying and that Chijichenko went to the penitentiary where Proca is held being authorized by the family, which were disseminated by particular TV channels, are not true.

In the conference, there were presented two recordings of discussions between Venera Gasparean and her husband Karen Davitean with Radu Chijichenko showing that these took place after David Davitean was convicted. But Chijichenko went to Proca earlier and wasn’t empowered by the Gasparean family. As to David Davitean, the lawyer said this was taken hostage in order to make Proca speak.

Another lawyer for the family Ludmila Bolocan said David Davitean has been held in Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau for a year and a month, being a victim of circumstances. David Davitean’s state of health is difficult, but he is not allowed to receive treatment at a hospital.

As to the actions taken by Radu Chijichenko, Venera Gasparean said she filed a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The reports saying that Radu Chijichenko was empowered by the Gasparean family to go to Proca were disseminated by media outlets after Chijichenko was mentioned in the interview given by Vitalie Proca in the penitentiary whereby this admitted that he tried to kill Gorbuntsov by order of Vlad Plahotniuc, but failed. Proca also said that Radu Chijichenko came to him and promised that he would be transferred to Moldova and his sentenced could be cut if he signed a statement saying that Renato Usatyi ordered the murder of the banker.
