The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, in concert with the National Road Transport Agency and the Border Police, launched an operation to examine the motor vehicles that convey passengers over Moldova’s borders, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry says that at the Leuseni customs post, inspectors of the National Road Transport Agency discovered a driver who transported six persons to Italy without a license. He was fined 2,000 lei and deprived of the vehicle’s license plate for a period of six months. Another two drivers who didn’t have all the documents in order were also fined. As in the first case, the vehicles were sent back.
Deputy Minister of Transport Sergiu Bucataru said the unplanned checks were ordered after persons and business entities complained that this phenomenon has expanded lately.
Similar checks were carried out at the customs posts Sculeni and Cahul. The Agency’s inspectors there also discovered drivers transporting passengers without the required documents.
