The crews of the vehicles in Moldova that participate in the international road transportation system will have to comply with the European standards on the regime of work and rest, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Government entrusted the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure with the task of implementing in Moldova the system of digital tachograph cards. The tachograph measures the vehiles’ speed, how far they have travelled and when the driver has stopped to rest.
“The European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles engaged in International Road Transport (AETR) says that as of June 16, 2010 the digital tachographs will become compulsory in the countries that signed the Agreement, but are not EU members. Moldova only now starts to introduce digital tachograph cards so that there is a lot of work to be done,” said Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru.
He also said that the introduction of digital tachographs will contribute to the achievement of the Council of Europe’s goal to obtain a 50% reduction in deaths from road accidents by 2012.
