The burning of vegetation leads to the modification of the ecosystem of the soil. Therefore, such an action is banned. The authorities warn that the fine for setting vegetation on fire is up to 10,000 lei.
Contacted by IPN, the head of the Environment Ministry’s Natural Resources and Biodiversity Division Ala Rotaru said the upper layer of fertile soil include humus with a lot of microorganisms and the burning process leads to the change of the ecosystem. “When vegetation burns on a portion of land, those plants no longer grow on that area and the microorganisms typical of that ecosystem disappear,” said Ala Rotaru. Other plants will grow in the burned layer of soil, mainly weeds.
According to the deputy head of the State Ecological Inspectorate Vadim Stangaci, the burning of vegetation is punished with a fine of 2,000 to 3,000 lei, for private individuals, and of 8,000 to 10,000 lei, for legal entities. The value of the damage caused to the environment is added to the fine.
