The customs officers early this morning have seized 10 tonnes of tomatoes and sweet peppers near Calfa village of Anenii Noi district. The merchandise was transported from the Transnistrian region by two cars Mercedes Bens 814D registered in Moldova. The drivers could not show documents of origin for the goods and refused to say what road they used, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Customs Service.
The preliminary investigations showed the units of transport did not cross internal customs posts.
The vegetables to the value of about 100,000 lei were taken to a specialized storehouse, while the units to Transport to the Bender Customs Office.
According to the communique, the private individuals can transport crops grown on farmland or purchased for consumption through internal customs posts, without paying import duties, on condition that they present a certificate showing the quantity of the yield and the size of the owned farmland issued by the mayor's office.
