Businessman and ex-MP Veaceslav Platon, after being set free  from penitentiary No.13, said he will not leave Moldova and will stay here to fight against Vladimir Plahotniuc by all possible ways, IPN reports.

According to him, the four years he served in jail were four months of struggle for survival and of resistance to the Plahotniuc regime. From now on, his main task will be to restore justice, to clear the country of Plahotniuc’s elements. He will not become involved in politics. For him, it is important to show to the people that he can do something for the country’s benefit. He has a well-thought-out plan, but will not provide details.

Veaceslav Platon noted that he does not intend to seek damage for the period spent in jail. As regards his relationship with Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, he said that there is no such relationship and the prosecutor general only promised to the people that he will investigate this case and does this.

Veaceslav Platon’s lawyer Ion Crețu said the decision to set free his client was taken based on the request to suspend the serving of the sentence made by Alexandr Stoianoglo. From legal viewpoint, the case of Veaceslav Platon is to be retried by the court. Veaceslav Platon continues to be a convict, but the court imposed no ban on him.

Veaceslav Platon spent four years behind bars. In April 2017, the Chisinau City Court sentenced him to 18 years in jail for swindle and money laundering in very large amounts that caused damage of over 800 million lei to Banca de Economii (Savings Bank). In December 2017, Platon got 12 years behind bars for trying to take sums of money from several insurance firms in which he was a majority shareholder out of Moldova in 2016, when he was under arrest. He allegedly asked for the support of members of the special purpose detachment “Pantera” in this regard. On January 30, this year, the Chisinau City Appeals Court quashed the December 2017 decision by which Platon was given 12 years in jail. The case is to be retried.

On May 18, Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo said the case started against Veaceslav Platon was fully fabricated and a procedure to review the sentence will be initiated. He also said that Vladimir Plahotniuc is one of the main beneficiaries of the bank fraud.

The judges on June 15 ordered to immediately suspend the serving of the sentence passed by the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau City Court on April 20, 2017 against Veaceslav Platon, by which he was given 18 years in jail for swindle, money laundering and active corruption.
