Businessman Veaceslav Platon, who is investigated for swindle and money laundering, intends to run for the office of President of Moldova. His lawyer Ana Ursachi said her client meets all the legal requirements for being registered as an election runner, IPN reports.
According to the lawyer, Veaceslav Platon took such a decision because he considers he has the same chances of winning as many of the persons who announced their intention to run in the elections. “Given that a number of persons ventured into this race, Veaceslav Platon also decided to take part as he meets all the legal conditions,” stated Ana Ursachi.
September 9 is the deadline by which the aspirants can apply to the Central Election Commission to have their initiative groups for collecting signatures in their favor registered. Ana Ursachi said the administration of Penitentiary No. 13, where Veaceslav Platon is held, announced a rat elimination procedure and closed the jail for the whole day. If the businessman does not manage to sign the documents required by the CEC today, he will miss the chance of running.
If Platon is registered as a candidate in the presidential elections, he will obtain immunity.
