The Buiucani Court accepted the prosecutors’ request to remand businessman Veaceslav Platon in custody for 30 days. This will remain in Penitentiary No. 13, where he was taken after he was extradited by the Ukrainian authorities, IPN reports.

Prosecutor Andrei Baiesu said the arrest warrant will start to be applied on August 29, when Veaceslav Platon was arrested on Moldova’s territory.

While he was escorted from one office to another, Veaceslav Platon told the journalists that all the judges are under the control of Vlad Plahotniuc.

The businessman’s lawyers said they do not know yet the essence of the indictment. Lawyer Ana Ursachi noted that the defense wasn’t allowed to examine the case during the nonworking days. “Veaceslav Platon pleads not guilty. He made a firm accusation against Vladimir Plahotniuc, calling him the main beneficiary of the money that was stolen in the Republic of Moldova,” she stated.

The lawyer also said that Veaceslav Platon wrote an application, saying that he feels well and does not intend to go into depression or commit suicide. He wrote it because he considers that his life in the penitentiary is in danger as he was threatened with death.

Veaceslav Platon is investigated for swindle and money laundering as a result of which damage of over 800 million lei was caused to Banca de Economii. The prosecutors established that the money that was illegally obtained as loans in Moldova was transferred to the accounts of offshore companies in order to hide their origin. Later, a part of this money was used to repay loans raised from Moldovan banks.
