Vasile Costiuc is running for mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau on behalf of the “Democracy at Home” Party that he leads.
He was born on May 25, 1981 in Sadaclia village of Basarabeasca district. He is married and has a child.
In 2004-2007, he was a member of the youth organization of the Liberal Party. Since 2007 until 2009, he served as a political consultant at the “Our Moldova Alliance” Party.
In 2008, he graduated from the Faculty of History of the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă” in Chisinau. In 2008-2010, he worked as a journalist.
In 2010, he founded the Youth Movement “Democracy at Home” which in 2011 turned into a political party. In 2014, he created the charity foundation “Familia”, while in 2017 he founded the townspeople’s association “Sadaclia”.
He competed for the mayoralty of Chisinau also in the local elections of 2018. He then garnered 504 votes, which was 0.23% of the ballot.
For January 1, 2002 – December 31, 2022, he and his wife declared incomes toting over 249,000 lei. These included the wife’s salary of over 147,000 lei and 102,000 in donations on the platform Patreon. Vasile Costiuc owns half of an agricultural lot to the value of 5,800 lei, which was acquired in 2009, an apartment that is over 61 square meters to the value of €34,300, and a 60% holding in the joint stock company “Biofruct Moldova” SRL, which was registered in Bucharest, Romania.
In January 2022, Vasile Costiuc was subject to searches within the criminal case concerning the illegal sale of lots of land by the Durlești mayor’s office. He was arrested and then set free. According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the criminal case is investigated and handled by the National Anticorruption Center and the APO’s administration. Vasile Costiuc was charged, but no preventive measures were taken against him.
Recently, Vasile Costiuc was shown in a video how he was hitting the guard of a hotel at a parking lot in the capital city. The incident happened at the beginning of August. According to the Chisinau Police Division, investigative measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the incident. Vasile Costiuc said that he is against aggressiveness and admitted that he acted incorrectly.
After he was registered as a contender for the mayoralty of Chisinau, Vasile Costiuc said that a lot of work is to be done at the Chisinau City Hall, starting from the repair of the building, which is an architectural monument, but has its plaster falling down. He also said that there is an agreement between incumbent mayor Ion Ceban and the Party of Action and Solidarity for the first to win a new term in office, while the PAS’ candidate to return to Parliament and this scheme should be annihilated.
As it was decided by draw, Vasile Costiuc will be under No. 1 on the ballot.
