The candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” for mayor general of Chisinau municipality Andrei Nastase lost his authority before the pro-European and Democratic voters, said the president of the Party ”Democracy at Home” Vasile Costiuc, who competed in the first round of the mayoral elections.
In a news conference at IPN on May 29, Vasile Costiuc said that even if Nastase was supported in the election campaign by a number of parties and political leaders, including by the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu, he won a much lower number of votes in the first round of voting than Maia Sandu won in the presidential elections.
According to Vasile Costiuc, the votes gained by Andrei Nastase came mainly from the supporters of the leader of “Our Party” Renato Usatui, who is in Moscow and who called on the voters to support Andrei Nastase on all the TV channels where he appeared. “The Usatyi-Nastase duo comes to replace the Plahotniuc-Dodon duo. And the question here is: if a group of criminals comes to replace another group criminals, what do we gain from the exchange of criminals in government posts?” asked Vasile Costiuc.
He noted he will support none of the two candidates in the June 3 runoff vote because none of these represent the interests of the citizens. Every time the voters were urged to choose the lesser evil, it turned out that the lesser evil was greater than it was expected. “We wanted to save the capital city by voting for the pro-European Liberals. Now this should be rebuilt as it looks as if it is after war and we try again to save the capital city. In a year, we will have again to save the capital city,” stated Vasile Costiuc.
The leader of the Party ”Democracy at Home” underlined the necessity of amending the Election Code so that this allows to introduce the option “against all” in the ballots and the citizens are offered the possibility of voting against all the candidates so that the politicians see how much trust they enjoy.
