The residents of Varnitsa village of Anenii Noi district discussed Moldova’s European vector and the measures aimed at building confidence between the people on both sides of the Nistru River with lawmakers. They took part in the public consultations “Priorities of the European integration agenda and strengthening of the confidence-building measures” that were organized by the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration. Svetlana Stefaniuc, secretary of the Varnitsa local council, has told Info-Prim Neo that the debates involved three lawmakers – Liberal MP Ana Gutu and Democratic MPs Igor Corman and Dumitru Diacov. “They told us about the country’s accomplishments in the European integration process. We discussed the confidence-building measures and the problems faced by the population of the Transnistrian region,” she said. According to the secretary, there were also discussed a series of road repair projects that require the assistance of the Transnistrian administration, which is not yet very receptive. The construction of a sports complex goes easier owing to the communication between the local administrations from both banks of the Nistru. Dumitru Diacov, who heads the Democratic parliamentary group, said that the inhabitants of Varnita were also told about the rumors that Moldova may want to join the Eurasian Customs Union. “I saw that the people are much more open if they obtain the necessary information. They do not oppose the European integration idea, as the press reports,” he stated. He also said that the people spoke about local problems, such as the repair of roads. Diacov informed that similar public consultations will be soon held in other settlements so that the people receive the necessary information from the first source.
