Romania will continue to assist Moldova disinterestedly, especially in the European integration process, chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament Valeriu Zgonea said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

The Romanian official stated that ensuring the competiveness of the Moldovan products on the EU market is a priority for Romania in the process of providing assistance to Moldova. Therefore, Romania will make sure that Moldova is supplied with cheap natural gas and electricity.

Zgonea also said that Romania offered €20 million in assistance to Moldova for modernizing kindergartens and will continue to provide financial support for key areas of the economy and Moldovan society.

According to the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, it is for the first time that all the EU member states support the integration of Moldova and stopping now on this road would be an irreversible mistake.

Romania, as any other European state, is concerned about the developments in Ukraine, which is a European territory with a vast Romanian diaspora, and about the ensuring of security in Moldova, the issue being discussed at the highest EU levels. The European integration would be a way out for Moldova given the geopolitical challenges, stated Zgonea.

He considers that the dangers threatening Moldova will disappear when the mentality of the people changes and they realize the benefits of the European integration. “The same Russians from Transnistria will no longer want to join Russia when they convince themselves of the priorities of the European integration, as the experience of the Baltic States shows,” said the Romanian official.
