The Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party, the Liberal Party and the Leanca group haven’t reached a consensus as to the formation of a ruling alliance and who has the right to designate the candidate for premiership, the Liberal-Democratic leader Valeriu Strelet said after the consultations held with President Nicolae Timofti on December 21, IPN reports.
“The head of state informed us that he reserves the right to nominate a candidate for Prime Minister. If need be, he will have one more meeting with representatives of the parliamentary groups,” stated Valeriu Strelet.
As to the defection by 14 MPs from the Party of Communists, the Lib-Dem said this is an action that will probably reconfigure the political class. “We consider this is an attempt to force the PLDM to act swifter by making us to understand that an alliance could be formed without us,” said the acting chairman of the PLDM.
The PLDM’s position is that it has the right to put forward a candidate for premiership and this candidate shouldn’t be a member of a political party.
