Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet informed the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland about the measures taken by the Government to swiftly ensure the conditions needed to open the negotiations on the signing of a new memorandum with the International Monetary Fund. The discussions on the issue will be continued in a meeting of the Premier and IMF representatives in Washington D.C. today, October 1, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the two officials exchanged opinions about the optimal methods of overcoming the challenges faced by Moldova and discussed the measures planned by the Moldova authorities and the assistance that the United States could provide in speedily promoting the necessary reforms.

Moldova’s energy security and the Government’s priorities in this regard, in particular the building of new power interconnections and of the Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline, were another subject for discussion.

Valeriu Strelet and Victoria Nunland also discussed a series of aspects of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and regional security.
