The acting chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Valeriu Strelet does not rule out the possibility of the party taking part in a new government coalition if the Democrats fulfill a number of conditions. He made such a statement in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

“The Democrats must fully change their attitude and no longer tend to keep the state institutions under control. Afterward, the National Political Council of the PLDM will decide if we will take part in the discussions with the Democratic Party or not. Now I can say that the PLDM does not have confidence in the PDM. We want a solution to be found, but the PDM does nothing,” said the Liberal-Democratic heavyweight.

Valeriu Strelet accused the PDM of blackmailing members of the PLDM and of taking steps to liquidate the party from behind. “The relations were always tense, but an apogee was now reached. Our colleagues from villages and towns can no longer tolerate the pressure and blackmail. The Democrats have an arrogant behavior and permanently exert pressure with the aim of demolishing the PLDM,” he stated.

The former Prime Minister also accused the Democrats of trying to wash their hands of the crisis faced by Moldova and to shift the blame on the PLDM. “The population should demand that all the political forces account for the current crisis. But those from the PDM should answer the first as they voted in favor of the non-confidence motion together with the Communists and Socialists. The Government was dismissed owing to their caprices,” he added.

Valeriu Strelet noted that the members of the PLDM do not keep in touch with Vlad Filat. “Filat can be visited only by his lawyers and relatives. He cannot vote from jail. We filed a relevant requisition to the Prosecutor’s Office, but were told that he must be present in the assembly hall to be able to vote and cannot vote at a distance,” he said.
