Liberal-Reformist lawmaker Valeriu Saharneanu said he will vote with both of his hands for the ratification of the Association Agreement with the European Union. “It is an accord of historical significance. We are approaching the moment when we will be able to say that the malefic power of June 28, 1940 starts to be removed by this June 27, 2014,” the MP has told IPN within a survey conducted by the Agency among lawmakers.
(On June 28, 1940, Romania received an ultimatum from the Soviet Union, which demanded pulling out the Romanian army and civil administration from the territory between the Prut and Nistru Rivers and from the northern part of Bucovina region.)
“We begin to have authentic freedom and independence. Until now we had been in transition. Now the transition starts to disappear and we see the European objectives,” said Valeriu Saharneanu.
The Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU is to be signed on June 27. Afterward, it will be ratified by the Parliament of Moldova and by the legislative bodies of the EU member states. A number of 51 votes are needed for the accord to be reified by Moldova’s legislature.
