The chance of transforming the initiative group for holding a referendum on teaching the Basis of Orthodoxy in schools into a broad political projects supported by the Orthodox Church of Moldova irritates some of the political leaders, considers the initiative group's leader Valeriu Pasat.
In a statement, Valeriu Pasat expresses his disappointment with the fact that some of the political leaders started to make threats and accusations against the Church, which is the most trusted institution in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“These leaders do not want to realize that the rulers, Presidents and Governments come and leave, but the Church remains,” the statement says.
As leader of the initiative group for holding a referendum on teaching the Basis of Orthodoxy in schools, Valeriu Pasat says that his team will make effort to successfully implement this project. “We will oppose governors' attempts to promote policies that run counter to the moral principles and traditions of our Orthodox people,” the statement reads.
The initiative group is against the reintroduction of the Life Habits subject in schools from September 1, 2010, against which the Orthodox community in Moldova protested vehemently.
