Removing Igor Dodon from presidency is the desideratum of the Union Political Movement as the model he perpetuates and disseminates in society is of Moscow origin, Valeriu Munteanu, the leader of the Save Bessarabia Union that forms part of the Union Political Movement, stated in a public debate entitled “Political or apolitical, party or common candidate for next elections, why?” that was staged by IPN News Agency.

“We have enough reasons to say that he and his party act in the name of the Russian Federation, not in the name of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The Russian model itself is failed from all viewpoints – economic, social and educational. We, the Union Political Movement, say this openly. Regrettably, in the Republic of Moldova there are yet parties that say they are unionist only partially,” stated Valeriu Munteanu.

According to him, the Movement pleads for Moldova’s union with Romania and those who support this idea should say it frankly and should not only aim to attract unionists’ votes with slogans. “We consider that one candidate should compete in this electoral constituency. We think it is possible to have one unionist candidate for the first round of voting. This would come, including from the platform of these elections, and would X-ray this almost dead state called the Republic of Moldova that cannot offer something to its citizens, if only particular elites that keep power,” he noted.

The politician underlined that when they consider they should have a dialogue with other pro-European parties at a certain stage of the election campaign, they will do this. They yet make this call now too and will formalize it so that there are platforms for discussion and interaction until the election campaign.

Valeriu Munteanu said that if all the unionist and pro-European parties sincerely admit that the desideratum is to remove Igor Dodon from power and to cause snap parliamentary elections so as to reconfigure Parliament, there are sufficient instruments to do this. “Dodon is not in such a good situation. We consider his situation is worse now than in 2016 and he and his consultants from the Russian Federation understand this. (…). Dodon came from a kind of opposition in 2016 and was considerably helped by the then ruling party, the Democratic Party, and personally by Vladimir Plahotniuc. Everyone realizes that without the money from the Russian Federation and without the administrative support of Plahotniuc, he wouldn’t have managed to win the elections in 2016.”

The leader of the Save Bessarabia Union also said that communication between parties and with the citizens is needed. Igor Dodon will have to explain why he did nothing during the four years. The office of President is not symbolical and is very important. When there are problems, the President is the one who takes attitude and who possesses many instruments.

The debate “Political or apolitical, party or common candidate for next elections, why?” was the 124th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture through public debates” that are supported by the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
