Valeriu Munteanu announced his parting from the Liberal Party (PL) after working as part of this for 11 years. In a news conference at IPN, the politician said the PL decided to follow one direction, while he will follow another direction. He will support the future bloc ACUM, which, as he considers, represents the united, authentic pro-European, pro-Romania, anti-Putin and anti-duo opposition.

The politician noted he openly and insistently supported inside the PL the party’s participation in elections alongside the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS), the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM). He also welcomed the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu’s decision to initiate a dialogue with these parties. As of November 5, he took part in six meetings, being delegated by the party. The dialogue was difficult in parts, but sincere and correct at the beginning. The PAS and PPPDA offered to “house” representatives of the PL and PLDM on the list of ACUM and in single-member constituencies, but after each aspirant for the seat of MP is examined by the integrity commission formed by civil society, while the place on the list and the distribution of constituencies will be decided exclusively based on the meritocracy of the proposed candidates.

Valeriu Munteanu stated that at the beginning everyone understood that the PL’s final decision is late, including owing to the process of reelecting the party’s president and the dialogue mates were understanding of the internal processes of the PL. “In the fifth dialogue meeting on December 5, when Dorin Chirtoacă was already president of the PL, the sides agreed that, given the start of the electoral period, until the next meeting that was set for December 10, the PL and PLDM, I quote: “should synchronize their agendas for taking the statutory decisions inside the parties” so as to take a final decision and clarify the positions of the sides in the last meeting ,” said the politician.

According to him, the last meeting with the representatives of the PAS, PPPDA and PLDM took place on December 10. The president of the PL came yet without a decision of the Liberal Party, arguing a final decision will be taken in the December 16 meeting of the party, which he does not know what will be like. “This is a weak excuse. A politician, a powerful political leader does not wait only, but also suggests, builds, formulates a view! A view in which he believes, for which he struggles and with which he wins. When the new party chief said he waits for the party’s meeting to announce the decision, I realized that everything was over, that the PL decided already not to form part of the good side of history, as I see and understand today our history,” said Valeriu Munteanu.

He also said that the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu does not want the PL to form part of the bloc of the united opposition and history will show why. He noted his biggest regret is for Dorin Chirtoacă who cannot come up with an own view on this crucial issue and obeys the agenda imposed by Mihai Ghimpu. “I decided not to be a party to something like this. I cannot be a witness to the dissolution of the opposition forces and the disappointment of the people. It is a mistake I cannot manage. I thus decided to leave this party, with regret in my soul, but with my mind clear and my conscience at peace as I made no mistake before my Romanian nation and God and do what I should do,” stated Valeriu Munteanu.
