Unaffiliated MP Valeriu Giletski staged the first meeting of the initiative group for collecting signatures in his support for him to be registered as a contender in the October 30 presidential elections, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the MP’s team.

Valeriu Giletski announced his intention to run independently in the presidential elections on August 11. This is the second election campaign as an independent for him. In the parliamentary elections of 2001, he won 1.74% of the poll.

Giletski entered Parliament on April 5, 2009. He is the secretary of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration and a member of Moldova’s Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He is the only Moldovan MP who held the post of chairman of a PACE committee for two consecutive terms.

Valeriu Giletski is the eighth candidate who launched officially a campaign for being registered as a runner in the October 30 presidential elections.
