All the governments that ruled in Moldova after 2009 did good things in terms of the European integration, but also made many mistakes. These mistakes must be corrected, while the government should change. Otherwise, it will be changed by the voters, unaffiliated MP Valeriu Giletski, ex-Liberal-Democratic MP, stated in the public debate “Europeanism of Moldovan government and society: responsibilities, affinities and dissimilarities in different periods of pro-European government”, staged by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova.
“I don’t know if the people who voted the European parties in 2010 fully realized the meaning of ‘Europeanism’. But I think there were expectations behind this notion. First of all, the people wanted a better life. Most of the citizens perceive Europeanism as a better life. If we look back, we can see that life improved in some areas, but not in all. I personally think the governments we had after 2009 were European. Yes, we didn’t manage to improve things everywhere, but the tendency to Europeanize the country is evident,” he said.
Valeriu Giletski also said that particular accomplishments were witnessed in the period, but mistakes were also made. “If we do not put them right, we will continue to be confronted by the same mistakes. We didn’t manage to establish a viable economic model. Without such a model, we will be unable to root out corruption. If we want to fight corruption, we must focus on three key factors – mother, father and the teacher,” he stated.
According to the politician, the current government started from a wave of dissatisfaction and reached a new wave of dissatisfaction. “We now either change or will have to be changed. We should better avoid the model of radical changes. I realize the dissatisfaction, but I never saw in history the uprisings to generate democracy. We want a change by peaceful ways. If the government does not change, it will be changed democratically,” noted the MP.
The public debate entitled “Europeanism of Moldovan government and society: responsibilities, affinities and dissimilarities in different periods of pro-European government” is the 54th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates”. These are organized with the support of the German Foundation “Hanns Seidel”. The administration of the Liberal Democratic Party and of its parliamentary group was also invited to the debate.
