The Constitution during the past few years has been turned into a convenient instrument. There were adopted decisions that were convenient to politicians and all the rules were created based on their interests, journalist Valerii Demidetskii stated in the public debate  “Legislative and political, internal and external solutions to the conflict situation generated by invalidation of Chisinau elections”, which was the 92nd installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates” staged by IPN News Agency.

“Now that the country is governed by forces called democratic, we see that the Constitution and other laws are disregarded and such a situation could continue for a year, two or three because the current conjuncture allows for this,” he stated, wondering if the same situation would have been witnessed if the runoffs had involved independent candidate Silvia Radu.

The journalist said Moldova became a captured state, but not through the citizens’ blame. It is very important for this captivity not to turn into a rupture. “I always said that what makes the politicians different from state functionaries is that the first live with the next elections, while the latter live with the interests of the future generation. I would like the politicians, regardless of all the faults they have, to do so that we do not live only with the election results or the results of the next elections and that Moldova is not subdued,” he stated.

Valerii Demidetskii said no matter how perfidious the legislation is, the way in which it is implemented is what really counts. Society should struggle for the politicians to understand that there are particular red lines that should not be crossed. “The current politicians are not afraid to cross them as they know they will be forgiven. Society should tell them this is unacceptable and they should leave if they broke the law. Everything depends on society,” he concluded.

The debate “Legislative and political, internal and external solutions to the conflict situation generated by invalidation of Chisinau elections” forms part of the series of public debates staged by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova within the project “Developing political culture by public debates” that is supported by the German Hanns Seidel Foundation.
