Valeriei Biagiotti becomes Doctor Honoris Causa of “Ion Creangă” University

The State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă” conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on the Ambassador of Italy to Moldova in 2017-2021 Valeria Biagiotti in gratitude and appreciation for the special merits of her excellence in the public, cultural, education, scientific life. By her activity, she promoted the accomplishments in education and science, contributing to the visibility of “Ion Creangă” University and to the development of sustainable partnerships between the institution and other higher education establishments of the world, IPN reports.

The University’s rector Alexandra Barbăneagră said Ambassador Valeria Biagiotti is a notable personality in the social and cultural sectors, a reputable envoy in the promotion of Italian culture, education and language. Her contribution to the Moldovan-Italian relations is impressive. While fulfilling her duties in the Republic of Moldova, she contributed to developing a sustainable partnership in all the areas, such as education, science, medicine, culture and arts, and to promoting the university and establishing long-lasting cooperation relations between the university and foreign partner institutions.

Angela Solcan, pro-rector for teaching activity at “Ion Creangă” University, said that Valeria Biagiotti speaks fluently five foreign languages. She is famous in the national and international diplomatic sphere owing to her incontestable contribution to coordinating the relations with the EU member states for supporting the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU by Moldova. She also helped increase Moldovan candidates’ interest in studying the Italian language and culture.

For her part, Valeria Biagiotti said she is honored, happy and flattered to receive this prestigious award and she is also grateful for the cooperation she has had with the Teacher Training University the past few years. The promotion of the Italian language and culture was among the key objectives she set after she was named ambassador. In her “cultural diplomacy” action in the Republic of Moldova, she could count on the openness of many persons, including teachers of the University. It was a surprise for her to learn that there are many enthusiastic teachers of Italian in Moldova.

Valeria Biagiotti  also said it is important to study Italian not only for her beauty, but also for the opportunities it can offer, given that there are many companies in Moldova where the Italian language is necessary. She called on the young people not to hesitate and to make effort in this regard. She appreciated the assiduousness and creativity of the University’s students.

Doctor Honoris Causa is a horrific title offered by a university or an organization to eminent persons, primarily persons who distinguished themselves in professional, social or political areas.
