Italy ranks second among the most important importers of Moldovan products, while the import volume increase in recent years is due, in particular, to the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, whose positive effects are tangible. The statement belongs to the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, in a video interview given to the IPN Press Agency.

According to the Ambassador, the Italian companies that have relocated to Moldova part of their production processes, play an important role in the export of Moldovan products to Italy.

Valeria Biagiotti said that Italian businessmen established their operations in Moldova since the first decade of Moldovan independence. The positive business experiences of Italian investors in Moldova are numerous and in different areas of the economy: textile sector, footwear production, IT services sector, car components production and wiring, etc. According to the diplomat, the linguistic proximity made the Italian investors more interested in Moldova and made them feel "at home" in Moldova.

"Of course, unfortunately, we had problems and negative experiences. For this reason, many Italian entrepreneurs request that the business environment is improved, namely by focusing on such essential aspects as the fight against corruption and justice reform", said Valeria Biagiotti.

The Italian ambassador to Moldova said that, according to available data, as of December 31, 2017, about five thousand Moldovan entrepreneurs were registered in Italy. These are, mostly, individual companies, which are considered "a first step towards further development", but also businesses and "investments of a certain value and importance".

The video interview given to the IPN Press Agency by the Italian Republic's ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Valeria Biagiotti, is part of the cycle "Relations of the Republic of Moldova with development partners", supported by the German Foundation Hans Seiddel.
