Moldovan writer Valentin Dulce, who settled in the United States almost two decades ago, launched his poetry book “Shards in the mirror” in Chisinau in the evening of May 11. The event held in a bookshop in central Chisinau brought together friends, relatives, faculty mates and admirers of his works. Many poems of Valentin Dulce have been turned to music and the songs are sung by Moldovan and Romanian artists. The book issue was of 300 copies, IPN reports.
The illustrations of the book were made by journalist Vasile Botnaru. In the event, he related that he has known Valentin Dulce since they were 18. They met when applying to the university and he felt that he met a related soul. “Then it was somehow embarrassing to show yourself receptive, lyrical. Journalism was then a more manly and robust profession. Dulce hid this trait that later erupted. If he hadn’t been a poet, he would have been a plastic artist, a stage manager or someone else, but also a very successful man,” said Vasile Botnaru.
The book contains the interviews from over the ocean given by Valentin Dulce to the radio station Free Europe. Free Europe correspondent Valentina Ursu said she has known Valentin Dulce for a long period and is proud that he is among her friends. “I admired and continue to admire first if all his humanity, decency, intelligence and vocation. The profoundness of his thoughts makes you to meditate,” stated Valentina Ursu.
Journalist Vladimir Afanasiev said Valentin Dulce is a poet who in time will be named by literary critics “Valentin Dulce phenomenon”. Valentin Dulce has always placed reason at the forefront in his works and can take control of the readers by what he wrote.
