The Chisinau Park “Valea Morilor” Saturday turned into an anthill. More than 500 employees of the Chisinau City Hall, members of youth organizations, servicemen and volunteers became involved in the cleanup activities, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said cleaning up around the lake is more difficult because of the waste and the reeds. “Litter is already thrown into the newly laid out lake. We found plastic bottles, bags and paper there. We hope to change the people’s mentality by such events,” he stated, adding he was glad that many people accepted the City Hall’s invitation to take part in the cleanup. Chisinau councilor Oleg Cernei said that several trucks of garbage, mainly leaves and dried branches, were collected in the park during an hour. According to him, the people have not yet explored the recreational area and there are no so many plastic bottles and bags. The head of the General Finance Division Veronica Herta said that more persons than planned came to the event. Some of them did not get tools, but they did not give up. “If we want a clean city, we must do something together or at least keep it clean,” she stated. Participant Alexei said he heard about the campaign on TV and decided to become involved. The young man lives near the park and often goes with his friends there to relax. Some of the passersby said the authorities should deal with the cleaning of parks, while the people with the cleaning of their yards. The spring cleanup campaign “Come on, Chisinau” covers all the districts of the capital city and its suburbs. In order to motivate the residents to actively take part in the campaign, “Come on, Chisinau!”, the City Hall will award by one prize for a courtyard in every district of Chisinau and a prize for a yard of a suburban settlement. The prizes will consist of laying out works to the value of up to 100,000 lei. There was also announced a photo contest for students themed “I and my family – we all like cleanness”.
