The chairman of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), Eduard Musuc, accuses former CMC chairman Mihai Ghimpu and his team of delaying works in the Valea Morilor Lake. At the same time, Musuc promises the people will able to rest on the lake's banks till the next spring, Info-Prim Neo reports. The CMC chairman says the mud does not contain heavy metals as was alleged by the chief of Chisinau's capital construction direction, Vasile Panfil. “On the basis of that statement, mayor Dorin Chirtoaca (deputy president of the Liberal Party) and the then-chairman of the CMC, Mihai Ghimpu (PL president), blocked the resumption of works and evacuation of the mud,” Eduard Musuc told a news conference. Musuc has hinted the results of analyses were allegedly forged, specifying that the brother of the Liberals' deputy president Anatol Salaru is the head of the section having checked up the mud samples. “The PL leadership can be accused of false and using false,” Musuc sated. The CMC chairman vows to notify the General Prosecutor's Office, the Helath Ministry and other bodies-in-charge to sort out the issue. According to Musuc, there is no environmental danger at “Valea Morilor”, so he is going to propose the CMC to pass a decision on resuming the works at the lake. The CMC chairman has said he is going to ask the Government to cover at least 50% of the cost of works and has shown himself confident the reply will positive. The expenses are to amount to 45 million lei, Eduard Musuc assesses. Asked tp comment the statements of the CMC chairman, Mihai Ghimpu has said the accusations “are aberrations and indecency on the part of Eduard Musuc.” Also, Vasile Panfil has said the danger at Valea Morilor Lake is still there, while the results of analyses are as truthful as possible, since they were confirmed by 4 labs. Also the president of the Chisinau Environmentalists, Vladimir Garaba, says the muds contains large amounts of heavy metals, but says it is not dangerous. The idea of renovating Valea Morilor Park came after all the fish died two years ago, lacking oxygen. The Chisinau City Hall and the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry proposed then to evacuate the water and mud from the lake and to cover its bed with granite slabs. After beginning the works in 2006, they were later stoped because of lack of money.
