The third edition of “Vadul lui Woodstock” rock festival will take place during October 10-11. At a news conference on October 7, the organizers said that this year’s edition will be much broader than the previous ones, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The festival’s motto is “Music for Peace”. According to Cezar Cernei, a member of the Association for International Volunteer Effort, a fair of the participating NGOs, social peace promotion campaigns, street theaters and surprise events for many participants will be held as part of the festival in order to make it more colorful
“We have a situation in Moldova, transformed into a conflict of ideologies – the Transnistrian conflict. We understood that music unites people regardless of their convictions and decided to make them communicate between them, including by dance,” the representative of the Human Rights Resource Center (CReDO), Cristian Ziliberberg said.
Thirty-two bands, including from the Transnistrian region and Romania, will take part in the festival this year. Twenty groups of these, six out of which from Transnistria, will compete for three guitars offered by CreDO. The participants must promote peace through their music as best they can. No tax is levied for participation. The organizers said that several bands from the Czech Republic also announced their intention to take part in the festival.
CreDO director Sergiu Ostaf said that public personalities are expected to come to the festival, but refused to give names, saying this is a surprise for the spectators.
Organizers anticipate that spectators mainly from Vadul lui Voda resort, which hosts the festival, will come to the festival on the first day, but the number of spectators will rise to several thousands the next day.
“Vadul lui Woodstock” festival aims at promoting peace and is considered a launch pad for young bands. The festival’s name is a combination of the name of Vadul lui Voda town, where the festival is held, and of the similar festival in the U.S. In Moldova, the festival is held the third consecutive year, organized by Artcord Association in cooperation with the Association for International Volunteer Effort of Moldova , with the support of the Embassy of the United States and the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
