The law enforcement system of Moldova could function as Romania’s system in several years if reforms continue to be done with perseverance, Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu said in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Grosu, the first results in combating corruption in the law enforcement bodies already appeared. “A number of judges resigned, others are under investigation or were convicted. These are the results of the reforms that were launched not long ago. The situation in our country reminds of the situation in Romania four years ago. Nobody believed then that Romania will shortly achieve such results in the fight against corruption. I think that if we continue the started reforms, we can repeat Romania’s success,” he stated.

The minister spoke about three key immediate tasks in the process of reforming the justice sector. “First of all, we must reform the prosecution service as soon as possible. The foreign partners also expect this of us. Secondly, we must modify the functioning mechanism of the National Integrity Center. Thirdly, we must take measures to make sure that the first two tasks are carried out,” he stated.

Vladimir Grosu also said that it’s not good that only 23% of the people have confidence in the Moldovan legal system, as a poll showed, noting that this figure should be at least 50% and it will be then evident that things go normally.
