The collection of figures and data is a problem in the Transnistrian region, says Promo-LEX program director Vadim Vieru. He gave as an example the absence of figures about how many people from the left bank of the Nistru hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova. According to Vieru, in the current situation regarding the supply of natural gas, the state must have exact figures on who it is going to help, but these do not exist. The statement was made in a public debate titled "The Transnistrian region in the context of the process of Moldova's accession to the EU", IPN reports.

"When you talk about citizens as a state, you can't talk with assumptions. You need to know exactly, with no margin of error, how many citizens you have there and, in general, how many people are in the Transnistrian region. When you want to make particular interventions, you need figures and data," said Vadim Vieru.

Another problem is the fact that it is not known how many citizens of the Transnistrian region or of the Russian Federation work in the law enforcement institutions of the Republic of Moldova.

"The law enforcement agencies, institutions do not know how many citizens of the Republic of Moldova work in the law enforcement institutions and have the citizenship of the so-called Transnistrian region. It is a national security issue. We are also talking about those with the citizenship of the Russian Federation. We tried to obtain this information from the authorities, but we were simply told that these data are not known and are not collected," stated Vadim Vieru.

According to the programs director of Promo-LEX, the Moldovan authorities did not take measures to improve communication: "For 30 years, new generations have grown up in the Transnistrian region, who are told every day that the region is a separate state, and Moldova is the aggressor. It is the result of an effective propaganda policy pursued by the administration in Tiraspol, supported by the Russian Federation."

The public debate entitled "The Transnistrian region in the context of the process of Moldova's accession to the EU" was held as part of the project "IPN News Agency for Social Cohesion and a Pro-European Moldova", which is funded by IMS.
