The status of federation or confederation, with Transnistria in the composition of the Republic of Moldova, is inacceptable, said the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski, adding that Transnistria’s security resides in its independence, IPN reports, quoting the local press.
“For 26 years, we have lived in very difficult conditions, of constant pressure and all kinds of blockades. The current situation is another challenge that we will certainly overcome. I’m profoundly convinced that the Nistrean Moldovan Republic, from the viewpoint of international law, has the right to own statehood. There is no other way. Any form of federation or confederation is very dangerous. If we lose statehood, we will create bigger risks and a big danger, even of resumption of military action. I’m deeply convinced of this,” stated Krasnoselski.
The Transnistrian leader reminded that in a referendum held in the region in 2006 (which Chisinau does not recognize - e.n.), the absolute majority of Transnistrians voted for the sovereignty of Transnistria, with subsequent entry into the Russian Federation. He noted that in this context, the Russian or Eurasian vectors are essential for the foreign policy. Owing to Russia, the inhabitants of the region have access to medical services of a high quality, to education and cultural values.
As regards the relations with the right side of the Nistru and the negotiation process, Vadim Krasnoselsky said the dialogue is important for preventing the escalation of the situation. “We are ready to discuss any economic, cultural and humanitarian subjects with our Moldovan colleagues, and we do this. But we will no way accept the inclusion of subjects concerning the political status in the agenda. I already said that this is decided by the people – independence,” he stated.
Vadim Krasnoselsky noted he will request the participants in the 5+2 format talks to review the initiative to institute joint Moldovan-Ukrainian customs control at the customs post in Cuciurgan.
