A consignment of 100,620 COVID-19 vaccine doses donated by Romania arrived in Chisinau. The vaccine will be stored at the National Public Health Agency. According to secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Denis Cernelea, the vaccine doses will be distributed to all the national vaccination center as from July 23 so that the people could get a vaccine closer to home.

According to Denis Cernelea, Romania’s support for Moldova is valuable and is a step forward for overcoming the pandemic.  Romania so far donated 614,000 vaccine doses, over 523,000 of which were AstraZeneca doses. Of all the vaccines donated to Moldova by now, almost half came from Romania.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu Bogdan said Romania wants to become the most important and most sincere friend of the Republic of Moldova. “We do this due to our special relationship that is based on the common language, history and culture and on the bilateral strategic partnership for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Romanian official. He noted that Romania and the Republic of Moldova lasts year struggled together against the COVID-19 pandemic. The team of doctors and medical assistants that was in the Republic of Moldova in April was a first example to this effect. In the course of 2020 and this year, Romania continued to support Moldova with donations of medical and protective equipment and thousands of vaccine doses. Owing to these vaccines, Moldova managed to achieve a vaccination rate that is higher than in other Eastern Partnership countries.

Andrei Baciu, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health of Romania, congratulated the Moldovan authorities on the way in which they managed the pandemic under the coordination of President Maia Sandu and on the vaccination campaign that has been successful until now. Since the very first moments, Romania showed its solidarity and friendship to Moldova and continues to do so.

Presidential advertiser on health Ala Nemerenco thanked the Romanian side for helping Moldova to ensure a comfortable state from epidemiological viewpoint. The fact that Moldova was able to lower the morbidity rate and to minimize the restrictions is first of all due to Romania’s support. The current consignment has been awaited by the medial institutions, but the most important thing is to make the population realize that the pandemic can be contained only by vaccination.
