A common myth circulating on social media sites falsely claims that the mRNA vaccines against COVID-19 can change DNA. This is an evident untruth, the head of the national committee of immunization experts Ninel Revenco stated in an event staged by the Ministry of Health and UNICEF Moldova, which centered on myths related to vaccination against COVID-19, IPN reports.

Asked about the influence of the COVID-19 vaccine on fertility, Ninel Revenco said this is another untruth that affects the vaccination pace among the young people. On the contrary, the infection with COVID-19 influences very negatively the young women, pregnant women and also the men, affecting their fertility. It is better to protect oneself from COVID-19 as the infection can have immediate and also long-term effects, including on the reproductive system.

As to the fact that AstraZeneca can lead to the formation of blood clots, Ninel Revenco said any type of vaccine can have adverse events and these are specified in the producer’s instructions. In the case of vaccines against COVID-19, frequent, rare and serious post-vaccination adverse events are possible. As to AstraZeneca, the carried out studies and the accumulated experience didn’t point to a connection between the vaccine and thrombosis.

Ninel Revenco noted any type of vaccine can produce such reactions as headaches, high fever and muscle and joint pain. Those who have a persistent headache after vaccination should see a doctor. Those who receive anticoagulant medicines before vaccination should continue the treatment. No study showed preparations for the coagulation of blood should be prescribed before or after immunization.
