The campaign to vaccinate wild animals against rabies has started. The Civil Aviation Authority informed that it authorized an air operator that during October 24-28 will distribute rabies vaccine baits intended for wild animals through the air, IPN reports.

The baits will be distributed all over Moldova, except for the security zone along the Nistru River and the Transnistrian region. The flights will be operated from the Mărculești International Airport and will be performed at low height (down to 300 m).

The National Food Safety Agency earlier said that owing to a program to eradicate rabies implemented in 2020 and 2021, which was supported by Romania and co-financed by the European Union, the number of cases of rabies decreased by about 75%.

The Agency recommends leaving the bait in the same place if one comes across an intact bait. If the bait is found in an area where there are children or pets, it should be taken to a wooded area using gloves. A veterinarian should be informed if a bait whose packing is destroyed or broken is found.

Similar rabies vaccination campaigns intended for foxes are conducted in Moldova in spring and autumn.
