The deputy ministers of foreign affairs of the Visegrad Group (V4) countries would like Moldova to report success in implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement and in doing reforms at the Riga EaP Summit. The European officials said this after a meeting with their Moldovan counterpart Iulian Groza in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iulian Groza said the discussions with the European officials centered on the preparations for the Riga Summit, while the visit by the deputy ministers of the V4 member states is practically a confirmation of support for Moldova’s European course on the part of the European partners.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Slovakia Peter Burian said the Association Agreement signed with the EU is a good basis for an ambitious program for reforming the country. The Riga Summit is a very important event for the Eastern Partnership, while Moldova is regarded as a leader of this project and it should strengthen this role. The reformation of the country is necessary indeed and the Moldovans’ homework cannot be done by someone else.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Ivo Šrámek said Moldova enters a crucial phase for its European course and everything will depend on the speed at which the Moldovan authorities move. The Visegrad Group countries are ready to help Moldova to cover the path to the EU.

Poland’s Deputy Minister Konrad Pawlik noted that three months remained until the Riga Summit and it is very important for Moldova to present significant results in reforming its legal system and financial system at that event.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Hungary István Mikola said the V4 countries, which are members of the EU, can share their experience and expertise so as to help Moldova. He voiced hope that Moldova will soon also become a member of the European Union.

The deputy ministers of foreign affairs of the Visegrad Group countries are paying a visit to Moldova on March 5-6.
