Minister of Information and Communication Technology Pavel Filip said that in Moldova it is impossible to use forged identification papers, while the recent arrests of functionaries of the state-run Information Resources Center “Registru” and of the Bureau for Migration and Asylum of the Ministry of the Interior on suspicion of forging public documents is the result of an investigation launched at the initiative of the internal service of “Registru” in 2014, when there was detected the forging of 30 passports, IPN reports.
“The forging today is impossible and, even if a person uses a forged passport or identity card, this will be for a short period of time. Criminals exist in every area and we must be always alert to challenges, but we must also work as, with the development of information technology, the number of those who want to stage cyber-attacks also increases. The good will yet triumph in the end,” Pavel Filip said in a press briefing.
The minister also said that the most recent attempt to use a forged passport was discovered at a checkpoint, when a person wanted to cross the border together with a child with foreign identity.
On April 27, four employees of “Registru” and of the Bureau for Migration and Asylum and two accomplices of theirs were arrested for 72 hours. These are suspected of abuse of power and of forging public documents in the interests of criminal groups.
