The number of Internet fraud cases has increased. The users are warned to be prudent, not to offer personal data or information from bank cards to unknown individuals. Warnings will also be disseminated by the police and through texts messages to mobile phones, IPN report.

General Police Inspectorate chief Viorel Cernăuțeanu told a news conference that there are different types of scams related to bank cards. The citizens are called in the name of representatives of banks or state institutions and are asked to provide information from the bank cards, being later defrauded of money.

In other cases, persons are phoned and told that a close relative of theirs caused a serious road accident or committed an offense and they need to transfer a sum of money for this person to get rid of punishment, or that the beloved persons was involved in a road accident and money is needed for hospitalization. Mostly older persons become victims of such fraud.

The people are urged not to believe the information communicated to them, to put down the receiver and to try to get in touch with the relative or to call the institution mentioned in the discussion. They should not transfer money to persons whom they don’t know and should never dictate the debit card number and the card security code, even if the callers say they are bank employees. The persons should call the bank to see if the communicated information is true or not.
