Summer is the time of leave and vacation. For those who go on vacation not to experience unpleasant incidents when returning, the General Police Inspectorate and the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service provide useful advice on how to protect our homes during vacation.
If you go on vacation for a longer period, don’t make this information public and don’t leave the windows on the first floor or on the last floor in an apartment building open. Even if it may seem banal, avoid taking the baggage to the car when there are many persons around and don’t leave money and valuable things inside when going away so as not to temp the thieves to enter.
To know that everything is ok, ask a trustworthy neighbor to monitor the apartment or house while you are away. Make sure that the alarm or video surveillance systems are on and functional, if you have such systems. If you do not, fit two different locks on the door so as to discourage the thieves from entering.
The firemen recommend disconnecting the oven, washing machine and other domestic appliances before going away. Make sure there are no devices in the socket so as to avoid short circuits.
About 80% of the 914 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year were due to human factors.
