The use of water filters by the consumers is sometimes inefficient. Ion Cascaval, Doctor of Chemical Sciences and consultant at SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, explained that this happens because some of the consumers forget that the filters must be cleaned and disinfected regularly. Thus, the consumers must respect the filter utilization rules so that the filters do not become a source for polluting the water in the centralized system, which, according to the specialist, meets the norms, IPN reports.
“Our company, in the process of treating drinking water, uses the most modern water filtering processes through layers with active coal and zeolite, which are the best filtering and absorbing materials. It is important for these to be washed daily and to be regularly replaced. But most of the consumers who install filters forget that these must be washed and disinfected on a regular basis and replaced when the volume of water indicated in the datasheet is filtered. Otherwise, the filters become a local source of polluting running water,” said the consultant.
During the past week, specialists of the lab of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” took samples from the water supply network of Chisinau and of filtered water to determine the quality of water at the request of consumers. In four cases, the water turned out to be inappropriate.
“The water in the centralized system meets the norms, while in the case of filtered water the level of turbidity and microbial growth is slightly higher. The turbidity can be removed by washing or changing the filter. As regards the microbial growth, it is harder to determine the period during which the filter became a source of pollution and what type of pathogen microflora there is,” stated Ion Cascaval.
He also said that the water supplied by SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” goes through a complex process of continuous treatment and monitoring and is safe to drink.
