The extraparliamentary party “Our Party” headed by Renato Usatyi, who is the mayor of Balti municipality, plans to stage large-scale nonstop protests in Chisinau starting with September 27. The Party of Socialists led by Igor Dodon will join in the protests, IPN reports.
The leader of “Our Party” told a news conference that the goal of the protests is to wake up the whole population. “We decided to mount protests because there is no other mechanism for exerting influence than holding protests. The state institutions are now occupied by oligarchic clans and our country must be freed from these. From 1pm until 3pm on September 27, we will go on a column from the Circus towards the Parliament Building, where we will meet with our partner – the Party of Socialists,” stated Renato Usatyi.
He noted that they initiate protests because the previous parliamentary elections were illegitimate and the current government is thus illegal. He presented some of the demands that they will submit to the government, including the resignation of President Nicolae Timofti, the chairman of the Central Election Commission Iurie Ciocan and of the administration of “Teleradio-Moldova” Company.
The organizers said the protests will be staged with the flags of the Republic of Moldova and of Stephan the Great and without the flags of political parties.
The leader of “Our Party” said they expect 30,000-40,000 people to take part in this Sunday’s protest.
