Over 100 communities in Moldova will benefit from financial assistance to the value of US$ 20.5 million for development during the next five years. The support for the improvement of public services, modernization of infrastructure and augmentation of revenues at the local level will be provided within the program “My Community” that was launched by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on May 7, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the program “My Community” is intended for local public authorities of the first level, civic groups and the local business community that, by cooperation, will develop the communities and will improve the accessibility and efficiency of public services. Each infrastructure project covered by the program is worth about US$ 500,000.
Attending the launch, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the program will help the mayors to become good managers and to efficiently manage public funds. A part of the financial assistance is intended for infrastructure, which is for roads, kindergartens, schools, water supply and sewerage systems. The support provided by the development partners and the permanent communication between the Central Public Administration and the Local Public Administration will contribute to overcoming the existing difficulties and to implementing important projects in concert.
In the course of this year, the people from 20 Moldovan communities will start to benefit from services of a higher quality. By 35 chosen communities will receive support annually during the next years.
