USAID appoints new director for Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus

The Acting Deputy Administrator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), James Kunder, administered the oath of office to Janina Jaruzelski as Mission Director for the USAID Regional Mission in Ukraine. "USAID is sending one of its most talented leaders to Kiev," said Kunder at the ceremony on Friday, July 18, in Washington, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from USAID's web site. "Janina has the qualifications, experience, technical expertise, and creativity to lead our Regional Mission in Kiev and our Country Offices in Moldova and Belarus - in partnership with the peoples of Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus - to build more democratic, stable, and prosperous societies in this critical region," the official said. As Mission Director of the Regional Mission in Ukraine, Jaruzelski will oversee nearly $80 million in projects in Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. The Regional Mission provides assistance in areas including democracy, governance, economic growth, energy infrastructure, health, education, HIV/AIDS and counter-trafficking in persons. Jaruzelski began working for USAID in 1995 and has extensive experience in the Europe and Eurasia Region. The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, have provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for nearly 50 years.
