“The most important result of the November 28 elections will be the end of the political crisis, with the future government being able to continue the reforms initiated a year ago,” professor William Hill, who headed the OSCE Mission to Moldova in 1999 – 2006, said during a Washington – Chisinau video conference on December 2 in the evening, Info-Prim Neo reports.
William Hill said that Moldova needs several years more to achieve real results in the implementation of reforms. The official Chisinau has made progress with the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks and the U.S. will continue to support the related efforts. “The United States will provide significant support for this program of reforms, not for a particular party,” said the professor.
In the video conference, Moldova's Ambassador in Washington Igor Munteanu said the November 28 early legislative elections showed that the PCRM has lost a part of its supporters and will make the people confuse if they form a coalition with the Democrats or the Liberal-Democrats. He also said that the Alliance for European Integration, if it is reconstituted, should not yield to the influence of the Communists as new elections could take place in 2011.
Political analyst Cornel Ciurea said in the video conference that the people in Moldova want a government coalition that will bring the political crisis to an end. The people are tired of the political games and a possible amendment to the Constitution will make them become suspicious, he stated.
