Ambassador Susan S. Jacobs, the U.S. Department of State Special Advisor for Children’s Issues, visited Moldova December 10th to 12th to strengthen the partnership between the U.S. and Moldova under the Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Inter-Country Adoption, IPN reports.
Ambassador Jacobs met with Moldovan leaders, including Minister for Labor, Social Protection and Family, Mircea Buga. During the visit, Ambassador Jacobs toured the Municipal Placement Center for Rehabilitation for Young Children in Chisinau, an innovative child care center that provides free services to single mothers, the crèche for children with special needs and a new residential center for young mothers with children. She also met with a U.S. couple that is close to adopting three related Moldovan children aged 8, 11 and 14.
With the competent authorities, the advisor discussed the results achieved in the child protection sector over the last few years, especially as regard adoption and prevention and combating of domestic violence.
Ambassador Jacobs was appointed Special Advisor for Children’s Issues in 2010 by Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton. Ambassador Jacobs advances U.S. policy concerning international parental child abduction and inter-country adoption.
