U.S. Representative to UN: Your hospitality and generosity are now known around the world

U.S. Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield approved of the way in which the Republic of Moldova copes with the challenges faced in the process of managing the crisis of Ukrainian refugees. The position was formulated in a meeting with Moldovan Premier Natalia Gavrilița on April 3 in Chisinau.

After the meeting, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield said she was able to see firsthand the way the government and the Moldovan people have come together to embrace Ukrainian refugees.

“You have welcomed them with open arms. And for this, your hospitality and generosity are now known around the world. I want you to know that, in all your efforts, you have a committed partner in the United States. We know that this assistance will go far in your hands,” noted the official.

For her part, Natalia Gavrilița thanked the U.S. for its assistance during the humanitarian crisis, noting that the Ambassador’s visit to Moldova is a strong signal of support from the U.S. and from the organizations that are under the umbrella of the United Nations.

“Since the start of the war, we have seen unprecedented social cohesion here, in our country. We saw how well the state institutions, volunteers, the private sector and Moldovan diaspora can cooperate to help the people who flee from the war. We have many placement centers set up by business entities, nongovernmental organizations and local communities – refugee families from Ukraine were offered shelter, food and compassion. Solidarity is the word that describes this period the best. We saw solidarity on the part of the European states, international community and, evidently, the U.S.,” Natalia Gavrilița stated at the joint press conference after the meriting.

The officials conferred on the developments in the region, pleading for a halt to the military actions and for peaceful negotiations in the confrontation that directly affects the Republic of Moldova.

The sides also discussed Moldova’s cooperation with the U.S. within the UN and the importance of the Moldova-U.S. dialogue for the democratic processes in Moldova, ensuring of Moldova’s development and wellbeing despite the faced major crises.
