Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State, is calling on Chisinau to form a professional government that has reputable members and is able to speed up reform and build a corruption-free country. This was said in a phone conversation with acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the Moldovan Government's press service reported.
The interlocutors discussed about the results of the November 30 parliamentary election and about the priorities of the prospective coalition government. Iurie Leanca said the priorities of the new government would be the judicial reform and the fight against corruption, elimination of poverty and creation of jobs. He added that in order to achieve progress with these reforms Moldova would need more support from its external partners.
The interlocutors agreed that the strategic Moldova-US dialogue, which was launched in March of this year in Washington, needs to be intensified. Also, Iurie Leanca invited Victoria Nuland to visit Chisinau at the beginning of next year.
The Leanca Cabinet formally resigned recently with the validation of the election results by the Constitutional Court. The caretaker Cabinet will ensure the administration of public affairs until a new one is invested.
