“We are working together with the Government of the Republic of Moldova so as to help obtain additional test kits from reliable sources. We are distributing medical consumables donated by our partners from North Carolina to the Mother and Child Institute to assist in looking after the sick. And we are ready to do even more, in close consultation with the Government of the Republic of Moldova,” U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau Dereck J. Hogan stated in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, IPN reports.

“First of all, allow me to inform you that the Embassy of the United States in Chisinau continues to work. Both I and the American and local personnel remain in Chisinau and will work to maintain in force the powerful bilateral relationship enjoyed by the U.S. and the Republic of Moldova for many years. Now I want to say what a big threat this virus is. Within the embassy, we ask the personnel to work from home as much as possible and to avoid large gatherings where the infection can spread easily,” stated Dereck J. Hogan.

It was also decided to limit the consular services so as to avoid the formation of large groups. This will enable to concentrate on the provision of emergency services for American citizens. Dereck J. Hogan noted that one of his most important responsibilities as ambassador of the U.S. is to protect the health and safety of the American citizens.

“We will soon bid farewell to the Peace Corps volunteers who worked here, in Moldova, and will now return home, to the U.S. Their departure forms part of a global withdrawal of Peace Corps volunteer designed to minimize the risk to which the citizens are exposed. It’s a pity to see them leaving, but I’m eager to welcome their successors to Moldova when circumstances permit. We cooperated closely during 30 years and do not intend to allow this crisis, even if it’s serious, to disrupt our cooperation,” said the ambassador.
