U.S. more committed than ever to cooperation with Moldovan people, Ambassador Hogan

Together with other development partners, the United States will help Moldova build a more prosperous and brighter future. The United States is committed more than ever to further cooperating with the Moldovan people as it chooses its own path that it wants to follow. This was stated by Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan during an event dedicated to the United States’ Independence Day.

In a speech delivered in Romanian, Ambassador Hogan noted that this year marks the 243rd anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence. “It was so long ago that I believe we sometimes forget how frail American Democracy was in its first days. It wasn’t born fully formed. It wasn’t perfect. It’s an effort that continues to the present day. This endeavor started with words that are as important today as they were back then. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’,” said  Dereck J. Hogan.

The ambassador said the United States is proud to be partners with Moldova as it continues its path towards democratic development. “WE will continue to encourage the consolidation of economic and trade relations between our countries. We will support Moldova’s efforts to stimulate domestic economic growth through new regional trade and investment projects. We are backing you to promote strong, democratic and independent institutions and judiciary that respect the rule of law and reject corruption and bribery,” added the ambassador.

Attending the event, President Igor Dodon conveyed a congratulatory message to U.S. President Donald Trump. “Let me use this occasion to note the dynamic development of the Moldova-U.S. dialogue over the years. I am certain that the latest positive developments in Moldova will allow us to further deepen our bilateral cooperation, to the benefit of both countries. I would like to mention in particular the 20th anniversary of the Partnership between the state of North Carolina and the Republic of Moldova, an event which will surely strengthen our friendship and collaboration,” said President Dodon in his message.

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Maia Sandu also congratulated the American People on the Fourth of July. “Let me wish peace and prosperity to the American people. Moldova has always enjoyed the full support offered by the American Government and we are grateful for the long-lasting assistance and solidarity. It is easier to achieve the democratric goals of freedom, respect for others and the rule of law when you can count on trustworthy friends that share the same values. I hope our ties will grow even stronger and I would like to reaffirm the firm commitment of the Moldovan Government to democracy and good governance,” stated Maia Sandu.
